Mental health is very important and affects our physical health. It also affects our quality of life. Just recently, it was reported that 40% of ninth graders suffer from anxiety and depression, which is a problem. In addition, one out of every three people in the Czech Republic has some kind of psychological problem. In many cases, it is anxiety or depression. But where is the problem? Why do more and more people have psychological problems that should be discussed with a specialist? Psychologists, psychiatrists, and other therapists. The problem, however, is that there are few mental health professionals, and finding a specialist takes time.
The wait for specialist evaluation and treatment can sometimes be as long as two months. The number of children who self-harm is increasing. I can say that the situation is quite alarming. We Czechs drink more than most other countries, and although men still drink more than women, women are beginning to catch up. At first glance, these women may not seem like alcoholics. These women just come home and open a good bottle of wine because they want to relax a bit. They may even be successful at work. For the most part, we live in stressful times, from which stress, anxiety, sadness, and depression arise, so we self-medicate in various ways and drink alcohol.
Anxiety. That is why children self-mutilate and we adults drink a lot of alcohol. Our ancestors were not in stressful situations like wars or pandemics (global pandemic diseases). Clear prevention is also important. If someone has a problem and solves it, there is no shame in it. The news has been so sad and negative for so long. People are getting pretty nervous about it and we need to realize that society is sick of it all. In fact, what will happen next? Will it ever get better? If so, how long do we have to wait?
