When choosing a vacation or looking for a place to stay, I pay attention to the rating of kitchen equipment and often bring a few things with me. There have been many times when I have not been able to cook well due to lack of cooking utensils. But I also run into this problem when visiting my own family and my mother-in-law. Each family is accustomed to slightly different utensils, has different customs, and cooks different meals.

Perhaps you could add a number of items that you personally find important and are familiar with using and leave some of them off the list. It really depends on the amount and specifics of cooking and baking.
The most common materials are wood, silicone, plastic, and steel and other metals. Silicone, in particular, has become increasingly popular in recent years, pushing wooden cookware somewhat out of the market.
