Floorball is similar to field hockey in many ways, but there are some key differences that make it a more accessible sport for those who only have a few nights a month. The biggest difference is the replacement of the ice surface with a large hall or gymnasium and the consequent replacement of skates with regular indoor shoes. However, it is still a team sport (the ideal number of players is five on the field plus a goalie), so it can be played with a group of friends or co-workers or recommended to children.
What do I need to play?
Similar to hockey, the basic equipment for playing floorball is a stick and a ball. Both can be easily purchased at your local sports store, and there are also many specialty stores on the Internet. The main thing to keep in mind is the stick, which should be at a height that suits your body and curved so that the blade is away from you when you hold it, in order to guide the ball properly. If you are just starting out, it is a good idea to ask someone for advice on choosing the right one. Next, you need only standard indoor equipment, such as a comfortable shirt, shorts, and indoor shoes
. A special chapter can be devoted to goalkeeper equipment. Goalkeepers can easily be replaced by other players on the field, but if they try to play floorball at a more professional level, they will undoubtedly run into each other sooner or later. The goalkeeper\’s head mask and full body gear are very important. Pads can be purchased if necessary.
Once you are ready, what else?
You can play in any gymnasium that has courts. The only other equipment needed is a floorball goal. Floorball has become increasingly popular in our country in recent years, and there is no shortage of teammates to find. It is also an ideal activity for children. Your child can learn to enjoy the sport and be active in this game. There are many floorball clubs in the Czech Republic, offering a wide range of options, from playing “just to relax,” to regular weekly play, to professional training.
